Scholarships

Each year a number of scholarships are on offer to both first year and second year students. Please contact your nearest campus in , or for more information on the scholarships available.

 

The Sony Foundation Australia Interactive Technology Scholarship

Sony FoundationSince 2001 AIE and Sony Foundation Australia have offered the Interactive Technology Scholarship to first year art students entering second year game art studies.

The Interactive Technology Scholarship assists talented art students to further their studies by providing three students $4000 each of subsidised course fees. First year art students continuing to the second year of study (Art) are invited to apply in August/September. Finalists then go through a selection process involving interviews with professional game developers.

Some past winners of the Sony Foundation Australia Interactive Technology Scholarship who have gone on to forge successful careers in the games industry include:

  • Alex Tuckett (Melbourne 2008) - Technical Artist at Tantalus Media
  • Chris Michaelides (Melbourne 2007) - Operations Manager for Zero One Animation
  • Simon Cottee (Canberra 2007) – Game Reviewer for Australian Gamer
  • Jessica Brett (Canberra 2006) – Character Artist at Red Tribe
  • Georgia Patton (Melbourne 2006) – Having worked at BigAnt Studios and Tantalus Media, Georgia is now working as a freelance 3D Artist.
  • Chris Chaproniere (Canberra 2003) – Character Artist at 2K Australia
  • Damon Raynor (Canberra 2000) – Damon went on to work at Soho Studios in London amongst other companies in both the UK and US before returning to Australia to take up a Lead Artist role for Krome.

The Interactive Technology Scholarship is offered each year with thanks to the Sony Foundation Australia.

 

Other 2010 Scholarships

AIE will be awarding 2 scholarships at each campus at the beginning of 2010. All scholarships are merit based and worth $3,150. Members of equity groups particularly indigenous students are encouraged to apply.

AIE Women in Games Scholarship

This scholarship is to assist an outstanding female AIE student, in year one or two of their studies, in art or programming to pursue a career in game development.

AIE First Year Scholarship

This scholarship is to assist an outstanding AIE first year student in art or programming to pursue a career in 3D animation or game programming.

Applications for all scholarships will be available mid-october.
