The course introduces the fundamental concepts of 3D, from modelling to production, for use in architecture.

Written in conjunction with experienced architectural visualisation practitioners, and using industry standard software, the course covers the practical tools necessary to create 3D visualisations, with a special emphasis on industry production techniques for visualisation. Students will be guided online through the key skills necessary to create architectural visualisations in 3D, covering all or some of the following modules, depending on student needs*:

  • Introduction to 3ds Max (16 hours)
  • Basic Domestic Building Technology (18 hours)
  • Image Manipulation (16 hours)
  • Introduction to CAD (18 hours)

  • Props in Architectural Rendering (18 hours)
  • Photo-realistic Rendering (8 hours)
  • Flythrough Animation (12 hours)
  • Professional Practices (8 hours)
  • Assignment (40 hours)

On completion of the course, participants will have an understanding of modelling, texturing, animating and rendering in 3D, and the application of those skills in architectural visualisation.

This online (flexible delivery) course, which will be available from May 2008, will require around three hours of study per week with a total nominal duration of 120-150 hours to complete the program.
